60 minutes

What is it?

Prenatal massage is adapted for the changes of pregnancy. You are supported on your side with pillows, and your therapist uses gentle techniques to ease the aches that come with a growing bump, especially in the back, hips and legs, while giving you time to rest.

Your session lasts 60 minutes.

What does it treat?

  • Lower back and hip aches
  • Tired, heavy legs
  • Neck and shoulder tension
  • Stress and poor sleep during pregnancy

How does it work?

Gentle massage relaxes tight muscles and eases discomfort. Positions, pressure and techniques are chosen for pregnancy, and areas and points that are avoided during pregnancy are not worked on.

What happens during treatment?

  1. You complete a short health questionnaire, and your therapist asks about any tension, injuries or pressure you prefer.
  2. Your therapist asks how many weeks pregnant you are and how you are feeling.
  3. You lie on your side, supported by pillows, and are covered with towels.
  4. Your therapist massages your back, hips, legs, arms, neck and shoulders with gentle pressure.
  5. You rest for a moment afterwards and are offered water before you leave.

Downtime and recovery

There is no downtime, and you can return to your day straight away.

How many sessions?

A single session can be booked whenever you need it. For ongoing tension, regular sessions every few weeks help keep it from building up again, and your therapist can suggest a rhythm that suits you.

Aftercare

  • Drink water and take things easy for the rest of the day.
  • Avoid a heavy meal, alcohol or strenuous exercise straight afterwards.
  • Leave the oil on your skin for a few hours if you can, then shower as normal.

Who is it suitable for?

Tell us before your session if you are pregnant, have a medical condition such as high blood pressure, heart problems, diabetes or a blood-clotting disorder, or have a recent injury, surgery, fever, infection or skin condition. Massage is not advised while you are unwell, and some conditions need your doctor's approval first. Many therapists recommend waiting until after the first trimester. Get your doctor's or midwife's approval first if your pregnancy is high-risk, or if you have bleeding, high blood pressure, pre-eclampsia or sudden swelling.

Combination treatments

Pairs well with a pedicure, which is hard to manage yourself later in pregnancy.
